Once Upon A Time…
Cerid had a Curiosities Cabinet

Cerid's artistic career is a cabinet of curiosities.
Each piece she creates tells a story and she constantly explores styles and materials to discover what feels right for the tale art wants to tell.
Primarily working in paint and textiles, her more recent works are large scale mixed-media paintings or small glimpses into folk-tale feeling worlds captured in felt.

Advocating Opportunities for Arts

Cerid spent a number of years dedicated to a being an advocate of the arts in her local community.

She co-ran Basement Art-Works over the summer of 2018 and from here founded a collective of diverse local artists who struggled to find a pocket with in the community to belong to.

With a shortages of accessible spaces for emerging artists in her community, Cerid worked tireless to find creative solutions to provide opportunities for artists who faced a variety of limitations in gaining exposure.

Eventually, she was offered the use of a run down barn in a location that had once been a tourist attraction, once housing a petting-zoom and farm walk. Once she had removed all traces of animals and their old cages, patched the leaking tin roof and repurposed old pallets into walls - all on a zero dollar budget with no pay or previous building experience, almost single handedly over just four months - the collective of artists spent just one summer with access to the rustic gallery before the owner rented it out as storage from under their feet.

The collective had grown and with a diverse range of ages, styles and lifestyles, the 18 artists evolved into "2i2c” with hopes to establish themselves as a not-for-profit community entity. After 2 years chasing legal dead ends while still searching for spaces to occupy (sheds, online exhibits, garages and even a Theatre house), 2i2c were forced into hiatus.

In addition to founding a collective and providing mentoring for emerging artists, Cerid also managed a Hub for Kapiti Arts Trail in 2019 which involved managing over 20 individual artists (all in different mediums including tattoo and muralist) over multiple locations on the site, scheduling musicians, managing marketing and promotion for the Hub including navigating interviews in video, radio and print, and working with council to adhere to health and safety regulations for her venues event. Over 20,000 people visited the Hub and it was well covered by local media.

From here she began to curate for others and secured a position as a Gallery Assistant at the regions leading gallery where she remained until her transition into publishing.
